Boat Shrink Wrap Recycling Program

Program Dates: April 15 - June 30, 2021

This program is free and available to Cape Cod residents. You do not need a transfer station sticker to recycle at any of these locations.

IMPORTANT: BEFORE YOU RECYCLE

Please review these important instructions

Only shrink wrap is allowed in the container! Remove all rope, strapping, wood frames, doors, zippers, and other non-shrink material.
Keep shrink wrap clean and dry.
Bundle shrink wrap and tie it using a strip of shrink wrap.

Past Programs

2020

In 2020, Woods Hole Sea Grant and its partners at Cape Cod Cooperative Extension reluctantly made the decision to cancel the 2020 boat shrink wrap recycling collection due to the uncertainties around the COVID virus and an abundance of caution for the public and our volunteers at the recycling collection points.

In 2020 we conducted a shrink wrap use and alternatives survey among Massachusetts boat owners, marinas and boat yards. Funded by the national Sea Grant program and the NOAA Marine Debris program, the survey results will be posted in 2021.

2019

In 2019, together, we recycled 3.6 tons of plastic shrink wrap. Woods Hole Sea Grant is grateful to the towns of Bourne, Dennis and Eastham for hosting our containers at their transfer stations, to Covanta for sponsoring our Public Service Announcement and “how-to” video, and to AmericCorps and our other volunteers for their help ensuring the shrink wrap was clean and properly bundled for recycling.
