Coastal Resilience Takes Center Stage at Islands Conference

The Islands Conference on Martha’s Vineyard

Deanna Moran, the chief coastal resilience officer, for the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management, was the keynote speaker this fall at the resilience-themed Islands Conference. Held on October 1 on Martha’s Vineyard, the daylong event featured several panel discussions focused on issues such as resilience planning and storm impacts on Martha’s Vineyard, to events and concerns across the region and beyond. The afternoon highlighted issues related to flooding and protecting coastal communities from sea level rise. The conference was organized by WHOI Sea Grant program, in partnership with the Martha’s Vineyard Commission, the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah), the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management and the Trustees of Reservations.

In June 2025, the Islands Conference heads to Nantucket. Stay tuned for dates and speakers!
