Archer Honored with AFS Presidents Award
Congratulations go out to Abigail Archer, WHOI Sea Grant and Cape Cod Cooperative Extension, on receiving the 2022 Presidents Award from the American Fisheries Society Northeast Division! The President's award goes to an individual selected by past presidents and the incumbent president for achievements in the promotion of fisheries management, upholding ideals of professionalism, and/or dedication to AFS and employer. Abigail was singled out for 16 years of outstanding contributions to the AFS as well as for leading the Society’s monthly Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion discussion for the last 18 months.
“Our monthly Diversity Equity and Inclusion discussions gave us time and space to reflect and learn together,” says Abigail. “I learned that there’s a great desire to discuss issues such as ableism, institutional racism, and sexism in our fisheries work. The readings and videos that each facilitator chose were about ways to identify it, how to confront it when we see it, and how to do work to prevent it from happening.”
The award was announced on January 10.
