Snap Happy: CoastSnap expands to Brewster & New Bedford
With well-established CoastSnap stations in Sandwich, Oak Bluffs, and Nantucket, this spring WHOI Sea Grant added two more coastal monitoring stations to the CoastSnap family: Brewster and New Bedford.
Brewster is known for its wide flats and sandy beaches. In partnership with the Town of Brewster, the CoastSnap at Linnell Landing is helping to keep track of how these beautiful coastal features change with storms, tides, and sea level rise.
Many people think New Bedford is safe from coastal storms due to its hurricane barrier, but the coastline is still changing every day and with every storm. WHOI Sea Grant worked with the City of New Bedford to monitor one of the most historic and vulnerable sites around the city. The CoastSnap at Mariner’s Memorial Way was constructed in partnership with students from Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School.
