The annual "State of Wellfleet Harbor" conference will be held on November 2 from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. at the Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater.
The purpose of the conference is to inform the residents of Wellfleet and surrounding towns about the research and monitoring projects that are taking place in Wellfleet Harbor, and to identify residents’ concerns and questions about the health of the Harbor that can be used to guide future research.
Presentation include:
- Opening Up the Salt Marsh Restoration Toolbox at Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary
- Status of eelgrass (Zostera marina) in Wellfleet
- Impacts of crabs eating Cape Cod salt marshes & vegetation-restoration techniques
- Herring River Restoration Project Update
- From Belding to Black Custard and Blister Worms: A century of scientific research in Wellfleet Harbor
- Hole-y Shell! Investigation of boring sponge in Wellfleet oysters
- High Pathogenicity Avian Influenza: The View from Global to Local
- Posters on the topic of a new dolphin rescue center, an update on mud-blister worm infection in
oysters, horseshoe crabs, a coastal oceanography afterschool program, and a summary of nekton
populations in Duck Harbor.
Attendance is free; pre-registration is encouraged, but not required.
In addition to WHOI Sea Grant, sponsors include: Mass Audubon, the Town of Wellfleet, Friends of Herring River, Barnstable County's Cape Cod Cooperative Extension, the Wellfleet Conservation Trust, and the Center for Coastal Studies.
