From the Director: Knauss Fellowship Opportunity

The application period has opened for the 2024 Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship program, which provides unique professional experiences for graduate students interested in national ocean policy.  Since 1979, Sea Grant has supported over 1,000 Knauss Marine Policy Fellows, pairing graduate students in marine sciences with host offices in the legislative or executive branches of government. Historically, approximately half have gone on to begin a career in the federal government at the end of their one-year fellowship. Recent Knauss Fellows from our program have assisted U.S. Senators with legislation related to the oceans and marine resources, while others have worked in offices focused on ocean renewable energy and marine debris. Importantly, no prior marine policy experience is required so we welcome any Massachusetts based graduate students who would like to apply their scientific knowledge to a wide range of important issues being addressed by our government agencies and elected officials. Please see our website or reach out to me directly, mcharette@whoi.edu, if you would like to learn more about the program.
